Jefferson County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

How it works

Jefferson County Homeland Security & Emergency Management says CERT is an all-risk, all-hazard training program for residents. The course is designed to help people protect themselves, their families, pets, neighbors, and neighborhood during an emergency situation.

What the service covers

The page emphasizes community-based preparedness and response. It teaches residents how to prepare homes and families, reduce injuries, loss of life, and property damage, and manage resources until professional assistance becomes available. Topics listed include:

• Disaster Preparedness
• Fire Safety
• Disaster Medical Operations I and II
• Terrorism Preparedness and Crime Prevention
• Disaster Psychology
• Special Populations
• Animals in Disaster
• Light Search and Rescue
• CERT Volunteerism

Amounts and matching

All classes are provided at no charge to participants. No cash amount, reimbursement, or match requirement is stated.

How participation works

Participants must attend all sessions and complete a final exercise and test at the end of the course. Those who complete the program receive a certificate of participation, a hard hat, and a CERT vest.

Timing and deadlines

The page does not provide a fixed application deadline or course schedule. It says to stay tuned for more information about the next CERT program. Participants who miss class time or leave early must make up that section when the next round of courses is offered.
