King Conservation District’s Wildfire Mitigation Program combines wildfire risk assessments with mitigation projects for homes and communities in King County. The district says it works with Washington State Department of Natural Resources, local fire districts, King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, and the Red Cross.
What the money covers
For individual applicants, the program says eligible practices include:
- Vegetation removal
- Hardscaping
- Gutter/roof maintenance
- Screening vents
- Deck or home skirting
- Attached deck improvement
- Removal or replacement of flammable fence and similar attachments
- Tree/shrub pruning
For communities, eligible practices include the items above plus:
- Forest stand improvement
- Brush management
- Woody residue treatment
- Fuel break
- Fire break
