Washington Department of Natural Resources Firewise USA® Site Micro Grant

How it works

Washington DNR says it works with local fire districts, conservation districts, counties, and WSU Extension programs to help Washington residents benefit from Firewise USA®. The Firewise USA® program, administered through the National Fire Protection Association, encourages homeowners and communities to prepare for wildfire. DNR frames this as part of a broader community wildfire-resilience strategy and links it to defensible space and home-ignition-zone preparation.

What the money covers

The page does not provide a line-item budget or an itemized list of funded work. It places the micro grant under Firewise USA® site activities and wildfire-preparedness efforts, which DNR ties to preparing around the home, creating defensible space, and helping communities become Firewise-recognized sites.

Amounts and matching

No grant amount, cap, or match requirement is stated on the page.

How to apply

The page points users to Firewise-related contacts: firewise@dnr.wa.gov or local DNR staff listed in the right-hand column. It also references a 2026 Washington Department of Natural Resources Firewise USA® Site Micro Grant and a 2026 Grant Application Notice of Funding Opportunity, but the page excerpt does not include an application form or submission instructions.

Timing and deadlines

The page explicitly says “Grants are closed.” It also separately references a 2026 grant application notice, but no open date, close date, or deadline is stated in the page text provided. Homeowners and communities are directed to contact DNR for more information.
