Program details
How it works
The Under 1 Roof program is a City of San Antonio home repair grant that fully replaces worn and damaged roofs for qualified homeowners. The city says it is not an emergency roof replacement program, and applications are handled first come, first served until funds are exhausted.
What the money covers
The program pays for roof repair or replacement, including demolition of the existing roof, white shingles, underlayment, roof flashing, drip edge, and turbine or ridge vent replacement. The city also notes that all Under 1 Roof projects use white, 3-tab asphalt shingles and reflective radiant barrier underlayment to increase energy savings and overall energy efficiency.
Amounts and matching
This is a one-time grant not to exceed $14,000 per household. Homeowners do not pay anything unless they violate the program agreement, but the program includes a five-year restrictive covenant.
How to apply
Applicants can come to the Neighborhood and Housing Services Department office at 1400 S. Flores in San Antonio to fill out an application, print the application online, or have an application mailed if disabled and unable to come in person. The city says the application process can take up to six months depending on demand.
Timing and deadlines
The city says it processes complete applications in the order received until funding runs out. The public FAQ also says applicants will be notified by letter or phone when the process is complete or if they do not qualify.
