How it works

Travis County says its Home Repair Program helps low-income homeowners in Travis County address potential health and safety hazards in their homes. The county says assistance is free and that, once approved, homeowners receive the materials and/or labor needed to improve their home.

What the money covers

The official page lists repairs and replacements for:

• Roofing
• HVAC systems
• Electrical systems
• Plumbing systems
• Septic systems
• Limited ADA accessibility compliance, including ramps, railings, and grab bars

The page does not give a dollar amount or a reimbursement formula.

How to apply

Applicants can start with an online pre-screening through the county’s application portal or pick up a paper application in person at one of the county’s six community centers. After the application is submitted, county staff contact the applicant to confirm eligibility. Eligible applicants are then placed on a waitlist. When the application reaches the top of the waitlist, staff schedule a Whole House Assessment to determine what the home qualifies for.

The page says the timeline is about 9 months to a year. The page itself is marked “Expired,” but it is still an official county program page and describes the program process.

Other notes

The county says applicants must submit:

• Government-issued photo ID, military ID, or current U.S. passport
• Proof of all household income for the last 30 days
• Social Security card or Social Security numbers for all household members who have them
• A completed Landlord or Homeowner Agreement
