Mountain Pine Beetle Inspection and Tree Removal Cost Share

How it works

The Urban Interface Management Plan includes mountain pine beetle inspections and associated cost-share provisions. Participation in the free inspection is voluntary, but a qualifying inspection is required to receive cost share for removal of infested trees. What the money covers

The accepted control method for an infested tree is complete removal from the property, though the Director of Parks and Recreation or the Urban Forester may authorize other acceptable methods when conditions dictate. Amounts and matching

Attachment #1 says complete mountain pine beetle removal cost share is $150 per tree, with a $2,000 maximum per parcel. Cut-and-chunk cost share is $40 per tree. Alternate mountain pine beetle cost share is 75% of the lowest quote submitted, capped at $750 per tree. The body of the plan also states the maximum reimbursement per parcel is $2,000. How to apply

The landowner must request an inspection. If infested trees are found, the city issues a green tree removal/disposal permit that expires in 90 days. The owner must arrange disposal at the landfill or an approved private wood processor, then submit the signed permit and proof of disposal to the Parks and Recreation office for reimbursement. Timing and deadlines

Infested trees must be removed within 60 days of the permit issue date, and reimbursement requests must be received within 60 days of removal. The program is first-come, first-served and available only while funds last. (archive.rcgov.org)
