How it works

The Weatherization Program is offered by the State and Federal government, through the Department of Energy and Department of Health and Human Services, and the County of York through the York County Planning Commission. It has been operating since 1972, and the county says more than 10,000 families have benefited. Eligible households receive the work free of charge.

What the money covers

The program includes specified home repairs and efficiency improvements intended to reduce heating and electric bills. Services listed on the page include:

  • basement insulation
  • hot water heater insulation
  • pipe insulation
  • window weather stripping
  • door weather stripping
  • caulking
  • broken glass replacement

The page also says workers test your furnace and hot water heater for efficiency and safety, and the program provides education on how to save and use energy wisely.

  • No lien is filed against your home.
  • Homes that have been previously served are not eligible for re-service.
