Program details
How it works
This disaster assistance may become available when the Governor of Ohio declares Wood County to be in a state of emergency. Funds are available only during the period set by the Governor’s office or the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, and are first come, first served.
The program says approved assistance is paid by voucher directly to the vendor. It specifically says payments are not made to reimburse costs the applicant already paid, and not to pay a vendor for services already rendered.
What the money covers
Approved services include:
- Home repair
- Appliance/furnace repair or replacement
- Tree removal
- Emergency housing
For home repair, the plan says repairs must be for the basic structure of the home such as walls, roofing, flooring, and plumbing. Tree removal is only for downed trees or branches on the applicant’s property.
Amounts and matching
- Maximum assistance for the aggregate of services for each applicant group is $1,500.
- The plan says homeownership must be verified for each service unless noted.
- For home repairs, the applicant must provide two written estimates from a recognized business.
- For appliance/furnace repair or replacement, one written estimate is required.
- For tree removal, two written estimates are required.
How to apply
The plan requires verification that the need was due to the disaster from a police or fire department, an insurance company statement, Emergency Management Agency, or another third party acceptable to the director.
The plan also says any available insurance coverage and any other funds such as FEMA grants must be used before PRC is issued. Receipt or approval for PRC Disaster Assistance for the same dwelling by another person disqualifies the applicant.
Timing and deadlines
The program is only active during a disaster period authorized by state authorities. The page does not publish a standing open/close date.
