Program details
How it works
This disaster assistance may become available when the Governor of Ohio declares Wood County to be in a state of emergency and general revenue funds are made available. It is first come, first served, and is available only during the period set by the Governor’s office or the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Approved assistance is paid by voucher directly to the vendor. The plan says the county will not reimburse applicants for costs already paid, and will not pay vendors for services already rendered.
What the money covers
Approved services include:
- Home repair
- Appliance/furnace repair or replacement
- Tree removal
- Emergency housing
For home repair, the plan says repairs must be for the basic structure of the home such as walls, roofing, flooring, and plumbing. Tree removal is only for downed trees or branches on the applicant’s property.
Amounts and matching
- Maximum assistance for the aggregate of services for the household is $750.
- Homeownership must be verified for each service unless noted.
- Two written estimates are required for home repair and tree removal.
- One written estimate is required for appliance/furnace repair or replacement.
How to apply
The applicant must provide verification that the need was due to the disaster from a police or fire department, insurance company statement, Emergency Management Agency, or another third party acceptable to the director.
Any available insurance coverage and any other funds such as FEMA grants must be used before PRC funds are issued. Receipt or approval for PRC Disaster Assistance for the same dwelling by another person disqualifies the applicant.
Timing and deadlines
The program is only available during a state-of-emergency disaster period authorized by state authorities.
