How it works
Monroe County’s Home Improvement Program (HIP) provides grants or grant/low-interest loans to income-eligible homeowners for home repairs and improvements in the suburban towns and villages of Monroe County, excluding the City of Rochester and the Towns of Greece and Irondequoit.
What the money covers
Eligible repairs include:
- Structural repairs such as roofs, foundations, windows, exterior paint, or siding
- Major systems such as plumbing, heating, or electrical
- Accessibility accommodations such as ramps, lifts, doorways, and bathrooms
Routine maintenance, remodeling, and cosmetic improvements are generally not eligible.
Amounts and matching
Depending on the cost of needed repairs and household income, a homeowner may qualify for a grant of up to $20,000.
