HAPEC Home Repair Program

How it works

HAPEC says it has helped communities and property owners with housing repairs since 1984, and that more than 1,100 housing units have been renovated with over $21 million in grant money from federal and state sources.

The program page says housing rehabilitation programs in Essex County are funded annually and vary in scope and location from year to year.

What the money covers

The page identifies currently available housing rehabilitation programs as:

• New York State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
• New York State HOME Program
• USDA funding opportunities

It also lists an existing emergency flood assistance program.

Existing program note

The same page says the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation is making funding available for emergency housing repairs for income-qualified homeowners in Clinton, Essex, and Hamilton counties who recently experienced flooding damage and whose damage is not covered by other programs or insurance.

Timing and deadlines

The page does not state a universal deadline for the home repair program because the available programs vary over time.

How to apply

The page provides a home repair application and says homeowners should use the program’s application materials and follow HAPEC’s intake process.
