Program details

How it works

The Coastal Market Assistance Program (C-MAP) is a voluntary network of insurers and insurance producers that helps New York homeowners in coastal areas find insurance coverage. DFS says it is administered by NYPIUA.

C-MAP can help a homeowner obtain coverage similar to a homeowners policy by combining:

  • NYPIUA Basic or Broad Form coverage, and
  • liability, personal property, theft, and other coverage from a licensed insurer participating in the program, often through a “wrap-around” endorsement.

What the coverage includes

The page explains that a homeowner may be able to obtain:

  • NYPIUA Basic or Broad Form coverage for the dwelling
  • voluntary market policy coverage for liability, personal property, theft, and related coverages
  • replacement cost building coverage when the voluntary market policy includes an approved wraparound endorsement
  • replacement cost coverage for personal property as well as the building if the voluntary market policy includes hurricane coverage and insures building and/or personal property in excess of a NYPIUA policy

Amounts and matching

No grant, rebate, or fixed dollar amount is stated. This is an insurance placement and coverage-assistance program, not a direct payment program.

How to apply

DFS says to contact NYPIUA at (212) 208-9700 or online at www.nypiua.com for information about C-MAP.

Before applying, a homeowner must first have received a non-renewal, cancellation, or conditional non-renewal notice from the existing insurer for a reason other than non-payment of premium.

For new home purchases, applicants must identify the prior homeowners insurer.

Timing and deadlines

The page does not list a filing deadline.
