How it works
The Home Façade Improvement Program is one of two Live Newark programs. It gives owner-occupied homeowners a no-interest, forgivable loan to help renovate and repair the outside of their homes. The loan is forgiven only if the resident continues to occupy the home for 5 years after the loan closes.
What the money covers
Funds may be used for repairs or improvements to the property’s exterior. The city says the work is intended to beautify the community and may also address code violations or conditions that threaten the health, safety, and welfare of the occupants or the surrounding community.
Amounts and forgiveness
- Up to $40,000 per home.
- 0% interest.
- 20% of the loan is forgiven for each full year the recipient lives in the home, over a five-year period.
