Orange County Healthy Homes Program

How it works

Healthy Homes is a free Orange County Health Department program for people who live in Orange County and want to make their homes healthier and safer. A Healthy Homes Environmental Health Specialist schedules a home assessment, visits the home, identifies environmental issues, and then provides a report with steps to make the home safer and healthier.

What the service covers

The program says it helps families reduce common home hazards including:

• Poor air quality, including asthma triggers
• Fire safety risks
• Fall hazards
• Household poisoning risks
• Safer gun storage
• Private well/onsite water safety
• Childhood lead exposure

During the assessment, staff will:

• Identify possible health and safety hazards
• Share practical tips for home safety and environmental health
• Provide education on green cleaning and safer cleaning choices
• Connect people with affordable housing resources when available
• Offer follow-up support when needed
