The Housing and Home Improvement Program is designed to help individuals and families obtain or retain housing and basic furnishings or appliances. Onslow County says the service can include labor and materials for small renovations or repairs to dwellings, as well as basic furnishings or appliances when needed.

What the money covers

This is not described as a cash grant. The page states the program may provide:

• work needed to remedy conditions that pose a risk to the personal health and safety of individuals or families,
• work that enhances mobility for functionally impaired individuals,

Important property rules

• Repairs or renovations may only be provided to renter-occupied dwellings when the landlord is not responsible for the repair.
• The landlord must give permission for the work.
• The condition of the housing must be such that the repairs or renovations will make the dwelling adequate for the occupants.
