Housing and Home Improvement Program

How it works

Cabarrus County’s Housing and Home Improvement (HHI) program helps older homeowners stay in their homes and maintain safe, adequate shelter. The county says the program is for homeowners age 60 and older, and that the cost to the client is based on a sliding scale. Service will not be refused because someone cannot afford to contribute.

What the money covers

The county lists typical services as:

• Build wheelchair ramps, step rails, and grab bars
• Repair or replace broken windows and doors
• Minor floor repairs
• Minor plumbing repairs
• Install carbon monoxide and smoke detectors
• Other safety-related items

How to apply

Applicants complete the Housing and Home Improvement application and return it to the Planning Department by mail or email. The county says the completed application will place the applicant on a waiting list, and staff will contact the homeowner when funds become available.

Timing and priorities

Because funding is limited, the county says accessibility services and life-threatening emergency repairs are handled before other service requests.
