How it works

The North Carolina Agricultural Cost Share Program was established in 1984 to reduce agricultural non-point source pollution in North Carolina's waters. Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District says it has received a special allocation of funds for impaired and impacted watersheds in the county, and uses these funds for cost-share assistance on eligible Best Management Practices (BMPs).

What the money covers

The program helps owners and renters of established agricultural operations improve farm management through BMPs. The page says BMPs can include vegetative, structural, or management systems that improve farming efficiency and reduce the potential for surface and groundwater pollution. Examples listed on the page include field borders, sod-based rotation, cropland conversion to grass or trees, and livestock exclusion from creeks and streams.

Amounts and matching

Participants can be reimbursed up to 75% of a predetermined average cost for each BMP installed. The remaining 25% of the cost is the responsibility of the farmer.
