Urgent Need Home Rehab Grant Program

How it works

The City of St. Charles offers grant funding to help income-eligible homeowners make urgent repairs to their homes. This is a grant, not a loan. Homeowners can receive up to $20,000 for eligible repairs and improvements, and the program is funded by the St. Charles Housing Trust Fund.

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley administers the program on behalf of the City. Interested homeowners are instructed to contact Habitat NFV with questions and to file an application. The page also points applicants to the application packet in the Documents menu.

What the money covers

Eligible work includes:

• Repair and replacement of mechanical, heating, plumbing, structural, and electric systems
• Repair and replacement of failed or broken windows
• Repair and replacement of failed or leaking roofs
• Repair and replacement of failed or damaged entrance doors
• Accessibility improvements, including grab bars, railings, chair lifts, doorway widening, walk-in showers, ramps, and lowered counters

Amounts and matching

• Maximum grant amount: up to $20,000
• Homeowner contribution: 5% of project cost
