City of Springfield Cannabis Homeowner Assistance / Exterior Rehabilitation Program

How it works

The City of Springfield says this special grant program is funded by a portion of local cannabis sales tax revenue. The city has designated 22% of that tax for rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes, and it is currently accepting applications for owner-occupied homes.

The program provides up to $25,000 of assistance for eligible exterior improvements. The city says funding is limited to the amount of cannabis sales tax revenue available, and projects that address health and safety are prioritized.

What the money covers

The official page lists these eligible exterior improvements:

• Exterior painting or siding
• Exterior tuck-pointing and masonry
• Roofs
• Windows
• Front porches/front stairs

Amounts and matching

• Maximum assistance: up to $25,000
• Homeowner share: the participant must pay 5% of the entire repair cost
• If approved, everyone listed on the deed must sign the agreement

How to apply

The city says applicants should:

1. Apply online.
2. Contact two contractors and get bids for the scope of work.
3. Submit the two bids to the Office of Planning and Economic Development.

Timing and deadlines
