How it works

The Town of Windsor’s Multifamily Rehabilitation Grant Program offers small grants to address building code repairs in affordable rental properties with two to four units in Windsor. What the money covers

Eligible repairs listed by the town include:

• Replacement doors
• Siding repair and/or replacement
• System upgrades, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC
• Roof repair and/or replacement
• Water heater replacement
• Accessibility features for entering and exiting the home, such as wheelchair ramps and stair rails
• Basement waterproofing

The town also says required work includes smoke and CO2 detectors, life-safety-related electrical upgrades, and dryer vent replacements.

Amounts and matching

• Grant funds of up to $10,000 per unit
• Match of up to $7,500 per unit
• Town FAQ says the grant funds cover approximately 57% of the project because of the 75% matching requirement
• Town Council approved $300,000 for the program
