Program details
How it works
This program provides financial support to residents of Yuba County’s five Foothill Fire Districts for defensible space improvements around residences. The goal is to reduce vegetation and other combustible material near the home so wildfire has fewer pathways to the structure.
What the money covers
Eligible work includes pruning trees, removing ladder-fuel vegetation, maintaining grass, and relocating other flammables. The program emphasizes prioritizing the zones closest to the residence first to reduce ignition risk and help firefighters safely defend the home.
Amounts and matching
The program reimburses 50% of eligible expenses, up to $2,000 per residence.
How to apply
The guidelines call for an online application, or a mail-in option if the applicant cannot apply online. Applicants must submit copies of receipts or invoices and before-and-after photos. The guidelines also note that a follow-up visit may be scheduled to confirm program activities. Awards are distributed first come, first served, until funds run out.
Timing and deadlines
The guideline version posted online says work must be performed in 2022 or 2023, up to July 31, 2023, and that the application must be submitted by July 31, 2023. Because that is an older guideline PDF, current availability should be confirmed with the council before applying.
