Program details

How it works

Truckee Fire partners with Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships (SWEP) and Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) to provide defensible-space assistance for eligible owner-occupied primary residences. Residents are identified through inspections or community referrals. Once needs-based eligibility is confirmed, Truckee Fire and SWEP coordinate a student-led project to improve defensible space at the property.

Program model

Students first participate in a classroom lesson covering fire science, wildfire prevention, defensible space, and the project scope. They then apply what they’ve learned through hands-on work at the project site.

What the service covers

The page describes the service as defensible-space assistance. It does not provide a separate dollar amount, reimbursement, or matching requirement because the work is provided directly.
