How it works

The Neighborhood Chipper Program is a free hazardous-fuels reduction service. Residents do the cutting and stacking themselves, following CAL FIRE defensible-space best practices, and then submit a request for the YCFSC chipper crew to come chip the piles back onto the property.

What the money covers

The program provides chipping of biomass/debris generated from defensible-space and fuels-reduction work. The official page describes the service as free to residents.

Where it is available

It is available to people living in the high fire areas of Yolo County, including communities throughout the Capay Valley, Western Esparto, West Winters, and select areas of Dunnigan and Zamora.

What homeowners must do first

Residents are responsible for cutting down vegetation and stacking debris piles before requesting service. The page says the material must be stacked in a way that allows the chipper crew to access it easily.
