Kings County Housing Rehabilitation Program

How it works

Kings County says it offers housing rehabilitation assistance to homeowners who qualify. The County’s Housing Rehabilitation Program is administered by Self-Help Enterprises and is meant to help correct health and safety problems in owner-occupied homes.

What the money covers

The official county materials describe repairs such as a leaky roof and poor electrical wiring, and also say the program can provide new carpet, paint, and other fixtures. The County’s housing element says the program can cover health and safety hazards and more routine repairs, including low- or no-interest loans for up to $57,000.

Amounts and repayment

The county page says loans are either deferred until the homeowner sells the home or is able to begin payments, or made at a low interest rate of approximately 3%. The county also states it will place a lien on the property until the loan is repaid in full.

The county housing element says the program serves unincorporated Kings County, including the Corcoran fringe, Hanford fringe, Lemoore fringe, Armona, Home Gardens, Kettleman City, Stratford, and other small community areas.
