Program details

How it worked

Fire Adapted Landscapes & Safe Homes, or FLASH, was a cost-share program intended to help property owners reduce wildfire risk by managing flammable vegetation around homes and along key access routes. The county says the program was grant-funded, active intermittently since 2010, and expanded with additional funding in 2022.

What the money covered

The program paid for vegetation reduction and hazardous fuels work. A county news release says invited participants received a free site visit and Home Risk Assessment from a trained FLASH technician, plus technical assistance and reimbursement for defensible space and fuels reduction work. The county’s program page says the work targeted flammable vegetation around homes and along access routes.

Amounts and matching

A county news release stated up to $4,500 in reimbursement was available to participating landowners. The program page does not list a matching requirement.

How to apply

The county’s news release says landowners had to be invited to participate and then receive a site visit and Home Risk Assessment. The program page does not include an active application link because the program has ended.

Timing and deadlines

The county program page says FLASH ended in February 2025 and there are no current plans to reopen it.
