How it works

Alameda County’s Healthy Homes / Minor Home Repair program provides repair help for homeowners with eligible health and safety hazards. The County describes the program as offering “repair grants to improve the health and safety of your home,” and county planning documents say the program is continuous and still serving residents.

What the money covers

The County’s recent planning document says completed projects addressed essential needs such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and accessibility/safety items like railings and grab bars. Older program language says repairs are limited to correcting an existing malfunctioning component of the property and immediate threats to occupants’ health and safety. It also allows surrounding property or yard areas to be considered if needed to correct an immediate threat.

Amounts and matching

An older Alameda County–Oakland agreement capped labor and materials at up to $2,499 per project, less owner contributions. That document also shows the County may charge administrative/project fees for completed projects. I did not find a current official page stating the present per-project maximum, so treat the dollar amount as historical unless the County posts a newer limit.

The County’s “Get Help” page links to a “Request a Minor Home Repair” form and a flyer for the program. The same County page shows the Housing Inspection Program phone number and indicates the Healthy Homes team provides repair grants and related housing assistance.

Timing and deadlines

The County’s 2024-2025 and December 2025 planning materials describe the program as ongoing/continuous. No current application deadline was stated on the official pages I found.
