How it works
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) reduces household energy use through installation of cost-effective energy-saving measures that also improve resident health and safety. DHCD works with a network of nonprofit organizations around the state, and homeowners apply through the local provider where the home is located.
What the service covers
Typical weatherization services listed by the state include:
- Checking for health and safety risks, including carbon monoxide testing and installing CO2 and fire alarms
- Sealing air leaks with insulation, caulking, or weather-stripping
- Installing ventilation fans
- Repairing drafty duct systems
- Repairing and replacing inefficient or unsafe heating and cooling systems
- Installing energy-efficient lighting
