How it works
The City of Hampton and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation partnered to create the Resilient And Innovative Neighbor (RAIN) pilot grant program. It is part of Hampton’s broader Resilient Hampton initiative and the Newmarket Creek Water Plan. The program’s goal is to reduce flooding in the City of Hampton, improve waterways of the Chesapeake Bay, and help protect property and downstream neighbors.
What the money covers
Selected participants can be reimbursed for one or more eligible RAIN actions on their property:
- planting a tree
- installing a rain barrel
- replacing an area of mowed lawn with a rain garden
- using special pavers in place of an existing driveway or walkway
The reimbursement is supported by a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
