Program details
How it works
The City of Suffolk’s Real Estate Tax Relief Program for Elderly or Disabled persons provides a reduction or exemption of real estate property taxes for qualifying homeowners. The relief applies to the home and up to 10 acres of land.
What the money covers
This is a property tax relief program, not a repair grant, rebate, or loan. It reduces or exempts the real estate taxes assessed on the qualifying dwelling and associated land.
How to apply
Applications must be filed annually with the Suffolk Department of Social Services between January 1 and June 30 preceding the tax year for which relief is sought. To make an appointment or ask questions, the city says to call (757) 514-4870 or (757) 514-4222. The public is also served on a walk-in basis Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
