Program details
How it works
Roanoke County’s General Services department collects bulk and brush from residences on an alternating A-week/B-week schedule. Residents place items at the curb for pickup on their scheduled collection day.
The county also says each household gets 12 trips per year to Roanoke Valley Resource Authority transfer stations for disposal of household trash, bulk, and brush items.
What the service covers
The official page says bulk and brush collection is for residential curbside pickup. It also lists examples of why items may be rejected, which shows the program is designed for ordinary household brush and similar bulk material, not contractor debris.
Rules homeowners should know
- Items must be placed at the curb no earlier than the Saturday before collection.
- Items must be out no later than 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
- Brush must be no more than 6 feet long and 12 inches in diameter.
- Items must be separated into bulk and brush piles.
- The county does not collect dirt, rock, concrete, shingles, car parts, or materials from paid contractors.
Timing
Bulk and brush pickup is recurring, every other week. The county’s schedule is managed through its Trash App and collection-day tools.
