Wildland-Urban Interface Prevention, Preparedness and Mitigation Funding (WUIPPM)

How it works

The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands offers grant funding for projects and activities tied to wildfire hazard reduction in high-risk areas where homes and other development meet or mix with undeveloped wildland.

The official page says the program is for eligible entities, not individual homeowners. Applicants are expected to work through their Area Wildland-Urban Interface Specialist, confirm the project fits the fund’s purpose, and then submit an application through that specialist.

What the money covers

• Supporting wildfire hazard reduction
• Restoration of healthy and resilient forests
• Reduction of wildfire risk to human safety, water resources, and other natural resources in and near wildland-urban interface areas

Amounts and matching

• Eligible entities may request up to $1 million.
• Fire departments may apply and receive funds on a reimbursement basis.
• Fire department funding may not exceed 10% of the money in the WUIPPM Fund each fiscal year.

Eligible entities collaborate with their Area Wildland-Urban Interface Specialist and submit an application through that specialist.
