How it works

Salt Lake County administers grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to make homes lead safe for children. The county says all services are free. (saltlakecounty.gov)

What the money covers

The program includes visual inspection of painted surfaces, risk assessment and hazard identification, dust sampling and laboratory analysis, contractor selection and project management, blood tests for children under age six, and temporary relocation if needed. If a lead hazard is found, treatment can include window replacement, removing paint from surfaces such as doorjambs or painted floors, repairing and repainting areas with chipping and peeling paint, and specialized cleaning. Important note

This is a health-and-safety home repair program, not a wildfire-specific program. It can still overlap with home hardening in the broad sense because it funds exterior and interior repair work that improves the condition of the home. (saltlakecounty.gov)
