How it works

Iron County adopted a resolution in 2018 that gave no-cost building inspection services to property owners whose buildings or structures were damaged or destroyed by the 2017 Brian Head Fire. The resolution says the county’s only direct relief authority was the waiver of building permit fees and certain requirements tied to reconstruction.

What the money covers

The official resolution describes a waiver of building inspection services at no cost for the affected property owners. It also says the county waived Chapter 17.59 of the county code, “Geologic Conditions,” for these rebuilds, while noting that the International Residential Code still applied for soils requirements.

Timing and scope

This was adopted June 11, 2018 and was specifically tied to structures damaged or destroyed in the 2017 Brian Head Fire. It was not written as an ongoing countywide homeowner program.

Important limits

The resolution says county and state building codes still had to be followed to the extent outlined in the resolution. It also says Iron County had adopted the International Urban Wildland Interface Code and the 2006 Utah Wildland-Urban Interface Code by choice, but those requirements were waived for the affected reconstruction projects.
