How it works

Metro Action’s Utility Assistance Program administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for Davidson County residents. Assistance is a one-time award per program year.

What the money covers

LIHEAP provides assistance with payments for electric, gas, propane, or other energy resource bills. The page also says the home’s energy source does not have to be gas or electric; propane, wood, kerosene, and coal are covered under the program.

How to apply

Applicants should complete and submit the LIHEAP online application through the LIHEAP Portal. Applications may also be mailed or brought to the office. If the household has no income, the Self Declaration of Zero Income form must be attached to the energy assistance application.

Timing and deadlines

One-time assistance is available per program year, which runs from October 1 of the current year through September 30 of the following year. The page also says customers should allow enough time for payment processing before a disconnection threat.

Other operating details

Assistance may be available even if service has already been disconnected, but the page says the utility account must be in active status and cannot be a final bill. Metro Action cannot pay accounts in collections, accounts requiring a reconnection fee, or deposits under this program.
