Homeowner Rehabilitation Program (Comprehensive Housing Rehabilitation and Minor Home Repair)

How it works

Lexington County says it offers two homeowner rehabilitation options: Comprehensive Housing Rehabilitation (CHR) and Minor Home Repair (MHR). The program funds are generally granted as deferred forgivable loans. The county says CHR is funded through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program and provides repairs up to $30,000; MHR is funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and provides repairs up to $15,000.

What the money covers

The official page says the property must need improvements in one or more of these categories:

• The property does not conform to HUD Section 8 Minimum Housing Quality Standards or related local codes and regulations, including building, housing, fire, electrical, and plumbing codes.
• The condition and appearance of the property is detrimental to the neighborhood environment.
• Handicapped accessibility.

Amounts and repayment

• CHR: repairs up to $30,000.
• MHR: repairs up to $15,000.
• Awards are first-come, first-served for eligible applicants.
• Funds are generally deferred forgivable loans.
