How it works

Portland Fire & Rescue is currently conducting Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) home assessments upon the resident’s request if the home is in, or close to, a wildfire hazard zone. The assessment focuses on the home ignition zone and provides specific suggestions for reducing wildfire risk.

What the service covers

The official page says the assessment helps homeowners understand how to create defensible space and make the home more fire-resistant. It specifically mentions recommendations such as removing some vegetation, trimming plants, and cutting back trees around the home.

Timing and deadlines

Requests must be received at least 2 weeks before the preferred visit date.

How to apply

Homeowners submit the online request form on the program page. After submission, an assessment coordinator contacts the resident by phone and/or email to confirm the request.
