FireFree Free Yard Debris Collection

How it works

FireFree is a year-round wildfire-preparedness program in Central Oregon, and Deschutes County’s Solid Waste department supports it with free yard debris collection events. Homeowners can bring wildfire fuels to county transfer stations during the event dates and hours.

What the service covers

The county says accepted materials include:

• Grass clippings
• Brush
• Plant prunings
• Pine needles and pine cones
• Weeds
• Trimmings and branches
• Stumps or trees, as long as they are no larger than 12 inches in diameter

The stated purpose is to help residents create defensible space and reduce wildfire risk by removing flammable debris around homes.

The county says event dates and hours vary by location. The county’s Natural Resources page lists annual collection sites and dates, including Sunriver and Bend, and notes that events begin May 1, with dates and hours varying by location.
