Community Wildfire Grants

How it works

Lane County says this program was created with one-time funds and is not accepting new applications. The county received wildfire hazard mitigation funding from the Oregon State Fire Marshal, with funds allocated by Senate Bill 762, to help vulnerable residents improve defensible space and support Oregon’s transition to a more fire-adapted state.

What the money covers

The grants cover work to create 50 feet of defensible space around homes by removing or pruning vegetation. The page says selected property owners will not be responsible for any costs. Grant recipients can work together with Lane County staff to hire licensed contractors to complete the work.

How it is prioritized

The county says funding preference goes to people who are elderly, low-income, disabled, or otherwise vulnerable and who live in an area at risk of wildfire.
