Oklahoma Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) / HMGP-Post Fire

How it works

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management says HMGP is funded by FEMA and administered by the state of Oklahoma. It is a mitigation grant program, not a disaster-repair program for individual victims or a recovery program for public-property repairs.

HMGP-Post Fire becomes available after a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) is approved for a wildfire, and the state says it must be used for wildfire-specific mitigation activities.

What the money covers

The official page describes HMGP as funding cost-effective mitigation measures that prevent or reduce future loss of life and property and minimize future disaster-response and recovery costs. The page reviewed does not give homeowner-specific line items on what a private homeowner could buy with the funds.

How it is offered

Oklahoma says it now uses Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) for each funding cycle. Subapplicants submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) for the specific HMGP or HMGP-PF grant, and if approved, receive an invitation to apply.

Timing and status

The page states there are currently no HMGP or HMGP-PF funding opportunities open, and OEM is not currently accepting NOIs.

Priorities

Initial funding priority will be given to jurisdictions within the declared areas.
