FORTIFIED Home premium discounts filed by Oklahoma insurers

How it works

Oklahoma does not appear to mandate one single statewide discount amount. Instead, the Oklahoma Insurance Department says that homes with a FORTIFIED Home™ designation in Oklahoma receive discounts on the wind portion of their homeowner’s insurance premium, and that homeowners should contact their insurance agent for discount details.

What the discount applies to

The department’s materials say wind and hail mitigation can reduce the risk of damage during storms and, in Oklahoma, may provide homeowners discounts on their wind insurance premium and deductible. After the work is complete and the home is upgraded to the FORTIFIED Roof standard, the homeowner receives a certificate that can be shared with the insurer to receive the discount.

Amounts

The department’s discount handout says discounts can be as high as 42% for homes with FORTIFIED Home—High Wind & Hail Roof designations, but the actual amount varies by carrier and location. The handout lists example carrier discounts ranging from 3% to 42%.
