Wildfire Mitigation Cost-Share Program

How it works

The Greater Santa Fe Fireshed Coalition says the Forest Stewards Guild provides a wildfire mitigation cost-share program for private landowners and communities within a slightly larger Santa Fe Fireshed boundary.

The coalition’s program page says the Guild’s cost-share program funds vegetation management for wildfire mitigation within 100 feet of homes for individual property owners, as well as community mitigation projects such as slash disposal days or large-acreage thinning in high-priority locations.

The page also says the Guild will conduct a property assessment, provide a Wildfire Mitigation Plan, sign an agreement with the landowner before work begins, and return for a post-mitigation inspection to ensure the work was completed as described.

What the money covers

The page says the grant funds vegetation management, such as tree removal. It specifically says it does not fund home hardening actions such as wooden fence replacement.

Amounts and matching

The coalition page says the grant pays 60% of the total cost of most projects and 75%–90% of the total cost for low- to moderate-income landowners.

In the background section, the page says the Guild received a five-year, $1.3 million Community Wildfire Defense Grant, and that $350,000 was made available to help landowners pay for fuels mitigation treatments.
