Community Fuel Reduction "Chipper Day"

How it works

Santa Fe County’s wildfire-preparedness page lists a Community Fuel Reduction “Chipper Day” as a county service. The county states that the request must come from an established association or organization, such as a neighborhood association, homeowners’ association, water or acequia group, planning committee, or neighborhood watch organization.

The county also requires the group to attend a training/information meeting, identify key contacts and decision makers, develop a community event plan approved by Santa Fe County Fire Department, and participate in a field training day.

What the money covers

This is a free service rather than a grant. The county chips fuels treated by the community when those fuels improve the survivability of residences and other structural values using Firewise and defensible-space models.
