Pay As You Save (PAYS)
Ameren Missouri · Utility program
Upfront-cost recovery through a monthly bill charge, with no credit check; the charge is capped by the program’s savings test.
Ameren Missouri’s PAYS program lets eligible residential electric customers make energy-efficiency upgrades with no loan or credit check and repay the cost through a monthly bill charge. The site says a free home assessment comes first, and the bill charge is designed to be lower than the estimated monthly savings.
Program details
How it works
After approval, a trained energy expert visits the home to perform a no-cost home assessment and recommend upgrades. A program partner installs the upgrades. Ameren then recovers the project cost through a fixed monthly charge on the electric bill.
The company says the PAYS charge includes installation cost, 3% interest, and a small program close-out fee. Once the project is paid off, the charge ends.
What upgrades can be covered
The page says typical upgrades include:
- HVAC
- Attic insulation
- Duct sealing
- Air sealing
- LED lighting
It also says upgrade eligibility depends on whether the monthly PAYS charge is no more than 80% of the estimated average monthly savings from the upgrades.
How to apply
- Start by completing the assessment form.
- Ameren then schedules an appointment for the no-cost home assessment.
Important program rules
- The program is not a loan or credit card.
- No credit check is required.
- If upgrades fail without the participant’s fault, the program will arrange repair or replacement and may suspend the charge if that cannot be done promptly.
