City Home Repair Program

How it works

Kansas City’s City Home Repair Program pays for home repairs for eligible homeowners rather than giving a cash payment to the homeowner. The city says it is currently working through an extensive waitlist and existing queue of eligible applicants, and that it is not accepting new applications for the 2026 program year.

What the money covers

The official program page says work under the program includes:

• Plumbing: main water lines, supply lines, water heaters, sewer mains, and drain lines
• Electrical systems: service entrance and main panel, including updating existing branch circuits
• Roofs: strip down and install new roofing materials
• HVAC: complete replacement, may include ductwork

The page does not state a dollar cap or matching requirement.

How to apply

The city says incomplete applications will not be processed. It also says the program uses 2025 HUD income guidelines and determines eligibility by combining household income with a small percentage of assets under HUD rules.

Timing and deadlines

• The city anticipates a Cold Weather Application Campaign starting 2026-10-01 focused on furnace replacements
