Home Repair Funding for Eligible Homeowners

How it works

Van Buren County says it has secured additional funding for a CDBG Home Repair Program that helps eligible homeowners pay for select home repairs throughout the county. The county says the program is for repairs that keep a home “safe, warm, and sound,” and that funding is limited and awarded first come, first served. Incomplete applications cannot be funded.

The county says approved funding may come as either a grant or a loan depending on the cost of the repairs:

• Repairs under $10,000 are a grant and do not have to be repaid.
• Repairs over $10,000 are a zero-interest loan with no monthly payments, and the loan is forgiven if the homeowner stays in the home for 5 years. If the homeowner moves sooner, the assistance must be repaid.

What the money covers

Eligible projects include:

• Roof repair or replacement
• Furnace or air conditioner repair or replacement
• Water heater replacement
• Electrical repairs
• Insulation
• Foundation repairs
• Accessibility improvements such as ramps or handrails
• Window and door replacement
• Concrete, asphalt, and masonry repair

How to apply

The county says applications are available through Market One’s online portal and that physical copies are available at participating community offices if the community has its own funds. The county also says Market One can answer questions and help with applications. Applications for Van Buren County funds open on 2026-08-18.
