Program details
How it works
Community Action Grants (CAGs) are offered by the Maine Office of Community Affairs through the Community Resilience Partnership (CRP), State Resilience Office (SRO). The program supports actions that reduce carbon emissions and increase community resilience. The page says these actions align with the recommendations in Maine Won’t Wait, Maine’s state climate action plan.
What the money covers
The page lists wildfire as an eligible project area. It also says CAGs can support projects in a broad range of resilience and climate categories, including planning, implementation, technical assistance, infrastructure, transportation, natural resource stewardship, and other categories listed in the grant’s project categorization section.
Amounts and matching
- Individual communities are eligible for a minimum award of $5,000 and a maximum award of $75,000.
- Groups of communities applying jointly are eligible for awards of up to $175,000.
- The page also lists “Max award $75,000” in funding details.
- Match may be required depending on the project.
- A cost share applies for projects that implement energy or resilience priorities that are not on the CRP’s List of Community Actions.
- Match rates listed on the page are 10% for Tier 1 and 2 communities (population less than 10,000) and 20% for Tier 3 communities (population over 10,000).
- In-kind match is permitted.
- The page also notes that no-match grants must complete actions from the CRP List of Community Actions.
How to apply
Applications are handled through the Community Resilience Partnership grant process. The page says applicants may submit enrollment materials through the enrollment portal at the same time as the grant application. For multi-community applications, all participating communities must be enrolled at the time the application is submitted or submit enrollment materials simultaneously. Service Providers may apply on behalf of communities, and letters of support are required from each community. A lead applicant must be designated for multi-community applications.
