Program details

How it works

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development says this grant was created under the Homeowner Assistance Fund and helped Maryland homeowners facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It supported critical repairs in primary residences that could lead to displacement if not addressed.

What the money covers

Examples listed on the official page include non-functioning heating and cooling systems, water heaters, electrical and plumbing/septic repairs, roof repair or replacement, mold/mildew remediation, lead paint/asbestos removal, and structural and maintenance issues.

Amounts and matching

  • Standard grant: up to $10,000.
  • Exceptions: up to $15,000 may be made for extenuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis with documentation of need.

How to apply

The page says applications are closed. It also states applications opened on 2026-01-22 and closed early on 2026-04-02 because funds ran out.

Important note

This was not a wildfire-specific program, but roof and structural repairs can overlap with home hardening. It is included because it was a state homeowner repair incentive program.
