Baltimore County Floodproofing Grant Program

How it works

Baltimore County says its Floodproofing Grant Program provides grants to residential property owners who have experienced flooding of their principal residence. The purpose is to help fund small projects that protect a residence from tidal and/or riverine overland flooding when those projects cannot be accomplished by capital projects.

What the money covers

The county says eligible work can include small floodproofing projects. In related county materials, examples include:

• adding fill/grading
• elevating stairwells
• eliminating doors or window openings

Amounts and matching

• Maximum grant total: $10,000 per principal residence over the life of the program
• If a project costs more than the grant maximum, the property owner pays the balance
• The county pays based on the lowest of three cost estimates
• The owner may bill the county at the 50% and 100% construction stages by submitting invoices

How to apply

The county requires a completed grant application and application for financial assistance, plus three cost estimates from licensed contractors and a plan or written description of the proposed work.
