Historic Home Restoration Program

How it works

The City of Springfield’s Historic Home Restoration Program (HHRP) offers grants to homeowners who live in listed Local Historic Districts. The page says the program funds are for exterior items only and that homeowners should use the Online Preliminary Application and review the Full Guidelines.

What the money covers

The page says eligible work includes:

• restoration of original windows and doors
• purchase and installation of energy efficient storm windows
• restoration of porches
• exterior carpentry repairs
• painting
• roofs
• chimney and other masonry work

Amounts and matching

The page does not state a maximum grant amount, matching requirement, or reimbursement percentage.

Timing and deadlines

The page says program funds were approved and that a lottery was held on December 2, 2025. It also says homeowners may complete an application for the next year’s lottery and that the deadline to submit an application will be determined later in 2026. The page further says the newest live lottery was held on December 2, 2026 and can be viewed on the committee Facebook page or on the Focus Springfield playlist.

Important note

If you submitted a previous application, it remains on file and will be entered into the next lottery. The page says do not fill out a new application if you already applied.

How to apply

If you think you may qualify, fill out the Online Preliminary Application and view the Full Guidelines. To confirm whether an address is in the pool of applicants, the page provides the program manager’s contact information.
