Program details
How it works
Louisiana’s Department of Insurance says homeowners may be eligible for an insurance premium discount for voluntarily strengthening their homes against storms and hurricanes in compliance with the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council. The department says all admitted insurance companies are mandated to offer actuarially justified premium discounts for wind mitigation. Surplus lines insurers are not required to offer these discounts.
What the discount covers
The page describes discounts tied to structural features that mitigate hurricane damage. Homeowners must have their home assessed to document those features.
How to apply
Homeowners should contact their insurance company or agent to discuss available discounts. If they want to proceed, they should complete the Wind Mitigation Survey Form, use an authorized Wind Mitigation Surveyor found through the LSUCCC database, and then submit the completed form to their insurer or agent.
Timing and deadlines
The official page does not give a fixed deadline; the discount is part of the homeowner’s insurance process whenever the insurer accepts the mitigation survey and determines the discount.
